Descriptions Community of Ones:The Search for Self after Devastating Loss book
What does a parent do when the unthinkable happens? What does a mother do when a beloved child is lost to suicide? Will she ever know peace, trust, love and joy again? Can a broken heart ever be mended?
"Community of Ones" is a novel – but it was written by a grieving mother who, prior to writing this book, believed that the answer to these last questions was an unequivocal "No."
The book tells the story of Lia: Her life is shattered after the suicide of a beloved son. In the void that follows, where everything is in question, she feels compelled to go in search of the son she lost. Her quest leads her to confront the nature of evil, to test the boundaries of her values, to examine life, love and death. It takes her from her self-exile in Jerusalem to a forest community in Tzfat, from the seductive shores of the Dead Sea to the cleansing desert heat of the Negev, from the underbelly of Tel Aviv, back to Jerusalem. But will she find what she is searching for?
The story will resonate with everyone who has ever been confronted with loss or who has had to cope with grief and mourning. The book describes Lia's journey in search of answers in the wake of devastating loss. You will struggle with her to understand, you will join her in her despair, you will share her denial of the finality of death. Yet, you will emerge with the realization that more than a book about loss, this is a book about healing, more than about despair, this is a book about hope and more than a book about bereavement, it is a book about love.
The fast pace of the story will grab your interest from the start. Page after page, you will find yourself eager to know what Lia will do next, where she will go next, who she will meet next. The story takes place the exotic land of Israel, but the understanding of life and love available to the reader through reading this book is of universal value.
Author's note: This is a work of fiction. To answer the question I'm asked most often - Lia's story is not my story. There are certain elements from my life that I had to use to write this book. I had to have three sons; I could not change that fact. Also, I wrote the story using my son's actual name - Eli - with every intention of changing it later, but found I was unable to do so. Other than that, this is a work of fiction. All characters, including major ones such as Yehuda, are fictional. They are not based on any real person in my life, either from the past or from the present.
Author's note to international readers:
The book "Community of Ones" is written from the perspective of a Jewish woman living in Israel. The main content of the book is universal in nature in that it explores the many existential, emotional, intellectual and spiritual questions and dilemmas that arise in the wake of the loss of a loved one to suicide. In order to make the book completely accessible to everyone, it comes with a glossary to explain concepts which may be unfamiliar to international readers, even though these occur infrequently in the text., Read Kindle Books On Pc .
